How It Started

Born from Resilience,
Built on Purpose

As Phoenix's industrial corridors boomed in the mid-2000s, warehouses and shipping yards across the Valley were littered with thousands of discarded and damaged pallets. Arizona's logistics sector was growing fast, but so was its waste problem. Most saw debris. Our family saw the raw materials for a new beginning.

What started with a flatbed truck and a small team sorting pallets by hand in west Phoenix has grown into a full-service pallet recycling operation that processes tens of thousands of pallets each month. But our core has never changed: we believe that nothing should go to waste, and that hard work and honest business can make a real difference.

Today, Phoenix Pallet Recycling is proud to be a family-owned and operated company serving businesses of every size across Arizona and the Southwest. From multinational distributors to local manufacturers, we treat every customer the same way — with respect, reliability, and a genuine commitment to doing right by the planet.

Our Journey

Milestones That Define Us

From a single truck to a full-scale operation — every step of our growth has been guided by a commitment to sustainability and service.

2005

From the Ground Up

While surveying the Phoenix metro area's rapidly expanding industrial zones, our founders saw mountains of discarded pallets piling up across warehouses and shipping yards. What others saw as waste, we saw as opportunity. Phoenix Pallet Recycling was born from a simple idea: give every pallet a second chance.

2008

First Facility

We moved into our permanent facility at 4587 W McDowell Rd in Phoenix, giving us the space to process thousands of pallets per week and serve the growing demand across the region.

2012

Fleet Expansion

With demand surging, we expanded our transportation fleet to offer reliable pickup and delivery service across Arizona, Nevada, and the broader Southwest region.

2016

ISPM-15 Certification

We achieved ISPM-15 heat treatment certification, enabling our customers to ship internationally with confidence using pallets that meet global phytosanitary standards.

2019

Zero-Waste Milestone

We reached our zero-waste-to-landfill goal. Every pallet that enters our facility is either repaired for reuse, recycled into mulch and biomass fuel, or repurposed into new lumber products.

2023

1 Million Pallets

We crossed the milestone of recycling over one million pallets since our founding — saving an estimated 25,000 trees and diverting over 15,000 tons of wood from landfills.

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

These are not words on a wall — they are principles we live by every day, on every job, with every customer.

Sustainability First

Every decision we make starts with the question: how does this impact the environment? From our recycling processes to our delivery routes, sustainability is not a side project — it is our mission.

Honest Dealing

We price fairly, deliver on our promises, and communicate transparently. Our handshake still means something. Many of our customers have been with us for over a decade because they know they can count on us.

Community Roots

Phoenix is not just where we work — it is home. We hire locally, support community clean-up efforts, and partner with local businesses. When our city thrives, we thrive.

Relentless Quality

A recycled pallet does not mean a lesser pallet. Every unit we send out is inspected, graded, and guaranteed to meet or exceed industry standards. We stand behind our work — period.

Our Team

People Who Care About
What They Do

Our crew is the backbone of Phoenix Pallet Recycling. From the sorters on the yard to the drivers on the road, every team member shares a common trait: they take pride in turning something discarded into something valuable.

We invest in our people with competitive wages, safety training, and opportunities to grow. Many of our team members started on the yard floor and have moved into supervisory and management roles. We believe that when you treat people well, they do their best work — and our customers can see the difference.

As a family business, we foster a culture where everyone is heard and respected. There is no corporate bureaucracy here — just a team of dedicated professionals who show up every day to do meaningful work.

Behind the Scenes

A Day at Phoenix Pallet Recycling

From sunrise to sundown, our facility runs like a well-oiled machine. Here is what a typical day looks like on the yard at 4587 W McDowell Rd.

5:30 AM

Pre-Dawn Prep

The first crew arrives before the sun rises over the Estrella Mountains. Forklifts are inspected, fuel levels checked, and the day's order board is reviewed. Drivers map out their pickup and delivery routes using GPS-optimized software to minimize miles and maximize loads. In the Arizona summer, starting early is not optional — it is survival. By getting a head start, our team avoids peak heat and stays productive longer.

6:00 AM

Trucks Roll Out

Our fleet of flatbed trucks and trailers heads out to warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing plants across the Valley. A typical morning dispatch includes 6 to 8 trucks, each covering a planned route that combines pickups of used pallets with deliveries of recycled inventory. Drivers coordinate in real time with dispatch to handle any last-minute urgent orders. On average, each truck completes 3 to 5 stops before returning to the yard.

7:00 AM

Sorting Begins

As the first loads of used pallets arrive at the facility, the sorting team gets to work. Every pallet is pulled off the truck and visually inspected within seconds. Sorters classify each unit into one of four categories: Grade A (ready for immediate resale), Grade B (minor repair needed), Grade C (significant repair or parts salvage), and Grade D (material recovery only). An experienced sorter can classify 200 to 300 pallets per hour. Sorted pallets are stacked by grade and moved to their designated zones across the yard.

8:30 AM

Repair Crew Clocks In

Our repair specialists — many with 5 to 10 years of experience — begin the day's rebuild work. Using pneumatic nail guns, pry bars, and reclaimed lumber from our salvage inventory, they replace cracked stringers, split deckboards, and damaged lead boards. A skilled repair technician completes 80 to 120 pallet repairs per shift. Every repaired pallet is re-inspected before it moves to the finished inventory area. The sound of nail guns firing echoes across the yard all morning — it is the heartbeat of our operation.

10:00 AM

Heat Treatment Cycle

Our ISPM-15 certified heat treatment kiln runs its first batch of the day. Pallets destined for international export are loaded into the chamber, where core temperatures reach a minimum of 56 degrees Celsius (132.8 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 30 minutes — the standard required by international phytosanitary regulations. Each batch holds approximately 80 pallets. We run 2 to 3 kiln cycles per day depending on demand. Every treated pallet is stamped with our certification mark before shipping.

12:00 PM

Midday Rush

Trucks return from morning routes and unload fresh pickups while the office handles a surge of afternoon order calls. The yard is at its busiest — forklifts weaving between sorting lanes, trucks backing into loading docks, and the grinding machine processing beyond-repair pallets into mulch and biomass material. The team takes staggered lunch breaks to keep operations continuous. Our office staff processes quotes, schedules next-day deliveries, and coordinates with customers on special orders.

2:00 PM

Afternoon Deliveries & Custom Orders

The second wave of deliveries heads out, focusing on same-day orders and custom fabrication jobs. Our custom pallet team handles non-standard requests — oversized pallets for machinery, low-profile pallets for automated warehouse systems, and specialty configurations for odd-shaped cargo. Custom orders are built to exact specifications using a combination of new and reclaimed lumber, depending on the customer's requirements and budget.

4:00 PM

Inventory Count & Quality Audit

As the pace winds down, the inventory team conducts a daily count of finished goods across all grades and sizes. We track our stock levels in real time so that when a customer calls at 7 AM tomorrow, we know exactly what we have on hand. A quality auditor pulls random samples from the day's output and runs spot checks — verifying dimensions, structural integrity, and grade accuracy. Any unit that does not pass goes back to repair or is downgraded.

5:30 PM

Yard Close & Next-Day Planning

The last trucks return, forklifts are parked and plugged in for overnight charging, and the yard is swept clean. The operations manager reviews the day's numbers — pallets sorted, repaired, shipped, and received — and compares them against weekly targets. Tomorrow's route sheets are printed, priority orders are flagged, and the cycle begins again. On a strong day, we process upwards of 2,500 pallets through sorting, repair, and shipment combined.

Our Tools

The Equipment Behind the Operation

Running a high-volume pallet recycling facility requires serious hardware. Here is the equipment that keeps Phoenix Pallet Recycling running at full capacity.

Propane & Electric Forklifts

We operate a fleet of 8 forklifts ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 lb capacity. Our yard forklifts run on propane for power, while indoor units are electric for zero-emission operation inside enclosed spaces. Each unit is inspected daily per OSHA requirements and serviced quarterly.

Pneumatic Coil Nail Guns

Our repair team uses Bostitch and Hitachi pneumatic coil nailers designed specifically for pallet repair. These tools drive 2-inch and 2.5-inch ring-shank pallet nails at a rate that allows technicians to complete a full board replacement in under 30 seconds. We maintain a ratio of one backup gun for every two in active use to minimize downtime.

Horizontal Band Saws

Two industrial-grade horizontal band saws allow us to cut reclaimed lumber to precise dimensions for pallet repairs and custom builds. These saws handle boards up to 12 inches wide and 6 inches thick, and feature automatic feed systems for consistent, repeatable cuts. Blade changes take approximately 10 minutes and are performed every 8 hours of run time.

Pallet Dismantling Machine

Our Pallet Chief automated dismantler strips down irreparable pallets in seconds, separating nails from lumber cleanly. The machine processes up to 60 pallets per hour and recovers usable boards that would otherwise be lost to grinding. Recovered nails are collected and recycled as scrap metal — nothing is wasted.

Wood Grinding & Chipping Equipment

A Morbark industrial wood grinder processes lumber scraps, broken boards, and non-salvageable pallets into uniform mulch and wood chips. The grinder handles up to 15 tons of material per hour and produces landscape-grade mulch, animal bedding material, and biomass fuel stock. Output is screened through a trommel for size consistency.

ISPM-15 Heat Treatment Kiln

Our custom-built heat treatment chamber holds up to 80 standard pallets per cycle and reaches core temperatures of 56 degrees Celsius within 45 minutes. Temperature probes embedded in test blocks provide real-time monitoring, and every cycle is logged for regulatory compliance. We are audited annually by an accredited ISPM-15 inspection agency.

Flatbed Trucks & Trailers

Our delivery fleet includes 6 flatbed trucks and 4 drop-deck trailers. Flatbeds carry 400 to 500 standard pallets per load when stacked efficiently. All vehicles are GPS-tracked, and we use route optimization software to minimize fuel consumption. Our trucks are maintained on a 10,000-mile service schedule to ensure reliability.

Sorting & Staging Conveyors

Roller conveyors and staging lines move pallets through our inspection and sorting process efficiently. Incoming pallets are placed on the infeed conveyor, pass through the inspection station, and are diverted to their grade-specific staging area. This system reduces manual handling, improves throughput, and lowers the risk of workplace injuries.

Moisture Meters & Inspection Tools

Every shipment of repaired pallets is spot-checked with pin-type moisture meters to verify lumber moisture content stays below 19% — the threshold for mold risk. Our inspectors also use digital calipers for dimensional accuracy, load-test jigs for structural verification, and LED flashlights for detailed crack inspection in low-light conditions.

Giving Back

Community Involvement
in the Valley

Phoenix is not just our business address — it is where our families live, where our kids go to school, and where we want to make a lasting positive impact. Over the years, we have built deep roots in the west Phoenix community, and we take our role as a local employer and neighbor seriously.

We believe that a strong business has a responsibility to strengthen the community around it. That is why we dedicate time, resources, and materials to programs that make a real difference for the people who live and work near our facility.

West Phoenix Neighborhood Cleanup

Four times a year, our team volunteers for neighborhood cleanup events in the industrial corridors surrounding our facility. We provide trucks, labor, and disposal for illegally dumped pallets, tires, and debris. Since 2015, these cleanups have removed over 200 tons of waste from vacant lots and roadsides in the 85035 and 85043 zip codes.

Trade School Partnership — West-MEC

We partner with the Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) to offer hands-on internships for students in their logistics and construction trades programs. Interns spend 8 weeks on our yard learning forklift operation, lumber grading, inventory management, and workplace safety. Several of our full-time employees started as West-MEC interns.

Pallet Donations for Community Gardens

We donate clean, untreated pallets to community garden projects across Phoenix, including the Roosevelt Row Community Garden and the Spaces of Opportunity farm incubator in south Phoenix. Pallets are used for raised beds, compost bin walls, and vertical planting structures. We supply approximately 300 pallets per year to these programs at no cost.

St. Mary's Food Bank Annual Drive

Every November, Phoenix Pallet Recycling sponsors a food drive in partnership with St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance. We provide collection bins at our facility, match employee donations dollar-for-dollar, and donate pallet and logistics support for food distribution events. In 2024, our team helped move over 8,000 pounds of donated food to families in need.

Youth Sports Sponsorships

We sponsor three youth baseball and soccer teams in the Maryvale and Estrella Village neighborhoods. Our sponsorships cover uniforms, equipment, and field fees. It is a small investment that keeps kids active, builds teamwork, and strengthens the bond between our business and the families in our community.

What Our Customers Say

We serve businesses across a wide range of industries. Here is what some of them have to say about working with Phoenix Pallet Recycling.

We run a cold storage distribution center in Tolleson that ships produce across the Southwest. Pallets are critical to our operation — if they are not clean, dry, and structurally sound, product gets damaged and we eat the cost. We have been buying exclusively from Phoenix Pallet for over six years now. Their Grade A recycled pallets are indistinguishable from new, and they are about 40 percent cheaper. We order 600 to 800 pallets per week and I have never had a delivery miss its window. My driver knows their driver by name at this point. That is the kind of relationship you want with a vendor.

Brennan W.

Warehouse Operations Manager, Regional Produce Distributor, Tolleson AZ

I manage procurement for a mid-size auto parts manufacturer in Chandler. We went through three pallet suppliers in two years before finding Phoenix. The first two would quote one price and invoice another. The third had great prices but could not keep up with our volume. Phoenix has been rock solid for four years straight. Their pricing is transparent — what they quote is what I pay. When we needed custom 42x42 pallets for a specific racking system, they built a prototype in two days and had a full run of 200 delivered within a week. I do not even get quotes from other suppliers anymore.

Marisol V.

Procurement Director, Automotive Parts Manufacturer, Chandler AZ

We are a small family-owned furniture workshop in Tempe. We only need about 30 to 40 pallets a month, which made us too small for most pallet companies to bother with. Phoenix treated us like a real customer from day one. They set us up with a monthly delivery schedule, gave us fair pricing even at our volume, and they pick up our broken pallets at no charge. When we had a rush order for a trade show and needed 80 pallets in 48 hours, they made it happen. For a small business like ours, having a supplier that actually cares is everything.

Trent & Leanne H.

Owners, Custom Furniture Workshop, Tempe AZ

I coordinate international shipments for a pharmaceutical packaging company in Scottsdale. ISPM-15 compliance is non-negotiable for us — one rejected pallet at customs can delay an entire container and cost us tens of thousands of dollars. Phoenix Pallet's heat treatment process is meticulous. Every pallet comes stamped, every batch is documented, and they keep records we can reference for audits. In three years and probably 4,000 treated pallets, we have had zero customs rejections. Zero. That track record speaks for itself.

Deshawn C.

International Logistics Coordinator, Pharmaceutical Packaging Company, Scottsdale AZ

We operate a large-scale recycling and waste management facility in west Phoenix. We generate about 500 damaged and surplus pallets per week that used to go straight into the landfill stream. Phoenix Pallet now picks up every single one. They pay us a fair price for the usable ones and take the broken ones at no charge for material recovery. It has turned a disposal cost into a small revenue stream for us, and we feel a lot better knowing those pallets are getting recycled instead of buried. The pickup schedule is consistent and their crew is always professional. Solid operation all around.
